5 Reasons to Participate in our Spring Showcase

Have you ever wanted to perform for a live audience? You’re in luck! DanceWorks Indy is bringing back its annual Spring Showcase set for April 26 at the Phoenix Theater, and that means it’s officially time to brush off your dancing shoes for the mainstage. Showcase is a perfect chance to try something different, challenge yourself, and show off all the hard work you’ve put into classes, and we hope you’re as excited to participate as we are.

This year, our DWI instructors are offering an incredible lineup of dances ranging in styles from ballet, to tap, to hip hop, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting events of the year! And if you’ve found yourself deciding whether to partake or not, we’ve curated the following guide to (hopefully) get you on board.

Here are the 5 reasons you should dance with us in our spring showcase:

You get to do something new and out of your comfort zone! Showcase is likely one of the only opportunities you get to push yourself in ways our regularly scheduled classes don’t always allow. You may be placed in a style you don’t usually take or perform choreography in a new setting, which gets you out of your comfort zone in all the best ways.
You build meaningful connections with your peers! There’s something special about getting to work toward a shared goal withother dancers. Rehearsing for back to back weeks with the same people, learning and perfecting the choreography, and cheering each other on creates strong bonds. Showcase gives you this unique connection, creating a supportive environment that is hard to find elsewhere.
Your training has a tangible outcome! Like any athlete, preparing for a major event is a huge motivator, and showcase is no exception. A performance gives your training a clear purpose and something to look forward to. You’ll be working towards a finished piece, grooming specific skills, and prepping a performance-ready mindset, and nothing is more rewarding than that!
You gain the performance experience without the pressure! Performing can sometimes feel intimidating, but our DWI showcase is designed to be a completely positive, low-stakes commitment. We encourage progress over perfection, and our instructors will always ensure your positive experience is prioritized over anything else. You get all the benefits of dancing on a real stage in front of a live audience, without the competition or pressure.
You will have so much fun! At the end of the day, showcase is all about having fun, and that is exactly what you’ll get when you choose to perform with us. Nothing quite beats the excitement of rehearsals, tech day, backstage energy, or the support from the audience, and it becomes an unforgettable experience you’ll remember forever. There are extremely limited opportunities for non-professional adult dancers to perform so we are excited to provide this opportunity for our clients!
