Adult Weekend Ballet Intensive

About Adult Weekend Ballet Intensive 2026

Our adult weekend ballet intensive is an opportunity for adults 18 and older to spend an entire weekend focusing on their training and meeting other like-minded individuals. There will be a mix of ballet technique and cross-training, as well as a photoshoot and the opportunity to perform and record a classical ballet variation. This intensive is suitable for all levels.

"As someone who did ballet growing up, I attended summer intensives every year from the age of 11-18. I absolutely loved going to these intensives, so as soon as I saw that DanceWorks was offering an adult ballet intensive I knew I had to sign up! I never thought I would get the opportunity to do something like this as an adult, and I'm so grateful to DanceWorks for constantly providing opportunities like this for their patrons. Spending a full weekend with people who love dance as much as I do was an extremely fun and nostalgic experience, and I can't wait for the next one!"

Photoshoot

Each dancer will have a chance to participate in a photoshoot during the intensive weekend. The photoshoot will happen on Sunday, August 2nd, with photos taken by our very own Gabby Brock (check out her photography page @pixbygem on IG or @GEM Photography on Facebook!). You are welcome to dress however you’d like (costume, leotard/tights, regular workout clothes, etc.). If you want to spruce up your hair/makeup, we have slotted in this time during lunch before the photoshoot. You may also want to come with some pose ideas in mind, although we will help guide you into poses. You should expect to receive an edited headshot and three posed photos within two weeks of the intensive.

Ballet Variation

Ava B. will be teaching a ballet variation throughout the weekend. Dancers will learn choreography and break down steps from a classical ballet (TBD). Each dancer will also have the opportunity to perform the variation with their peers, and they will be filmed twice, with one performance being filmed horizontally and one vertically.

Additional Info

What to Bring

  • We recommend packing a lunch, having food delivered to the studio, or grabbing something quick since there will be limited time to leave the studio and sit for lunch.
  • Bring other snacks to have throughout the day, as well as plenty of water / electrolyte drinks.
  • We also recommend bringing extra clothing in case you want to change over the lunch break since these are long days of working (& sweating).
  • Bring ballet shoes for technique and the variation class. You can wear ballet shoes, socks or go barefoot for modern, contemporary, stretch and yoga.
  • Please bring a yoga mat for stretch and yoga.
  • You may want to also bring a sweat towel.
Self Care Tips
  • Keep in mind, these are long dance days that you may not be accustomed to. Pace yourself, take breaks as needed, modify as needed (always feel free to ask for modifications if you aren’t sure how to modify yourself).
  • Plan to roll out your muscles or use a theragun and/or ice bath at the end of each night to help yourself recover.
  • Fuel and hydrate your body well to account for the increased movement.
Parking
  • We will utilize our normal parking options, including the (free) RJE parking lot next door, paid metered parking across the street, and (free) spaces on the backside of the building (non-gravel lot).
