How to Fit Dance Into Your Everyday Routine

As adults, we know how busy life can get. Between working the 9-5, managing the family, and making social plans, it can feel almost impossible to carve out time to dance.

Yet, despite packed schedules, making space for movement is not only rewarding, but a special time to invest in your energy, mindset, and overall well-being.

We’re here to give you the best tips and guidance you need to make dance a consistent priority on your to-do list!

Start small

If you’re struggling to get yourself into the studio, we would recommend starting with small goals and then building from there. In practice, this could look like doing one to two classes a week or taking the styles that you feel comfortable in. If you find this is the right cadence for you, keep this consistent! Even a few classes every so often can boost your mood, improve your stamina, and give you something to work toward.

We have class package options for those who need this lighter commitment. Check out our single class pricing, 5-class pack, or 10-class pack!

Plan ahead

Part of showing up to dance routinely involves understanding how to organize your time. When you know what classes you like and which days you can attend, it is always best to sign up early so that you can work around the rest of your schedule. Planning early also allows you to avoid the waitlist and prevent classes from getting cancelled when there are only two dancers signed up.

Managing your time also includes eliminating any possible barriers, such as packing your dance bag the night before, or routing out your commute in advance. The more convenient you make the experience for yourself, the more likely you are to show up feeling confident and ready to dance.

Discover your style

Most adult dancers are more likely to fit dance into their routine if they can find a class they genuinely enjoy. Not every single style will be a perfect fit, but it is important to experiment and explore until you find the ones that excite you and keep you coming back. When you appreciate the movement, it provides the necessary motivation to get you on the dance floor on a regular basis.

Build your community

One of the best parts about dance is the people and community that make it happen. When you start attending classes consistently, you’ll begin to recognize familiar faces, connect with other clients, and build meaningful friendships along the way. Having people who you expect to see in class can be another huge motivator for not only showing up, but also progressing in your movement. It turns dance from a solo activity into a collective experience that is fun for everyone. Planning activities with friends after dance can also help with motivation and building friendships with like-minded people.

Consider it a lifestyle

Dance is not just a form of exercise; it is a way of life, a form of healing, and a chance to improve other parts of your routine. You can think of it as self care, similar to going to the gym, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep. It supports your physical health, strengthens your coordination, and keeps your mind sharp, offering you the chance to connect to yourself on a much deeper level.

Give yourself grace

As always, some weeks will be busier than others, and giving yourself grace is just part of the process. You aren’t going to be able to attend every single class, life always has a way of popping up, but don’t let that derail you completely. If you have to take time off as you focus on your active adult life, know you can come back whenever you’re ready to start moving again.
